Patients First Health Care Rally

Patients First Health Care Rally Windsor, Colorado

On a freezing cold October 31st, 2009 day, a health care rally was held at Eastman Park in Windsor, Colorado. Jessie Madere opened the rally by singing our National Anthem. Speakers at the rally were Jeff Crank, the state director of Americans for Prosperity, and Dr. Julia Trevino from Greeley. The rally was attended by around 150 people who are completely fed up with Government run health care. Rally was attended by several local elected officials; Weld County Sheriff John Cooke, Weld County Clerk Steve Marino, & Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway.  Diggs Brown who is running for congressional district 4 in 2010 against Betsy Markey also attended. The Fort Collins 9-12 group also set up a table providing information.  Our members of Congress apparently don't seem to want to listen to the people.  Congresswoman Betsy Markey stated on August 21st at a Congress On Your Corner event in Greeley for seniors "With that, I hear you loud and clear", (see the other event below).  So why is it if she heard us has the health care bill grown from 1100 pages to 1190 pages? Obviously our members of congress are completely ignoring the voices of the people.  As one of the rally's attendees sign states "The other public option is election day"

Loveland 9-12 Project Health Care Rally to send a message to Congress

A health care rally organized by the Loveland, Colorado 9-12 project was held on September 9th.  Was designed to send a message to members of congress returning back to work from the August recess to take up Health Care legislation. A local pilot flew his airplane over the rally sending a clear message with the words "NO OBAMA" on the bottom of the wings of his airplane.  A lot of Senior citizens attended this rally very worried about what the Obama administration is going to do with this nations health care system.  Check out our new business venture STANDING TALL USA LLC

Betsy Markey talks to seniors about health care at Island Grove in Greeley

On August 21, 2009, Congresswoman Betsy Markey held a Congress on Your Corner event for Seniors to discuss the Health Care bill now being worked on in Congress.  Seated from left to right: Betsy Markey, Max Richtman Executive Vice President of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, Jan Foushee Regional Communications Director from the Social Security administration in the Denver Regional office, and Kelli Fritts Associate State Director Advocacy Representative from the Denver AARP office.  National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare web site.   AARP Colorado web site.

Max Richtman stated that the bill H.R. 3200 would eliminate the "Donut Hole" where seniors now on Medicare now pay $4000 out of pocket before qualifying for catastrophic coverage.  It would allow Medicare to negotiate with pharmaceuticals to get the best price.  He also stated that the bill would eliminate the outrageous subsidies of $200 Billion over 10 years to insurance companies for Medicare advantage programs.  He also stated that a bill passed in 2003 SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITS the Medicare program and government from negotiating the best price. Max also stated that there are 46,000 lobbyists in Washington, that is 86 lobbyists for every single congressman.  Lobbyists from the pharmaceutical companies had a big hand in getting that passed.  Just another example of the special interests with big money influencing our elected officials for their own financial gain at the expense of the American Public.  According to Open the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, AARP, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield are among the top spenders for lobbing our elected officials.  How can we as individuals expect to be heard by our elected officials when the lobbyists with billions of dollars in funding storm their offices in Washington DC on a daily basis?

"If we have Senators and Congressmen there that can't protect themselves against the evil temptations of lobbyists, we don't need to change our lobbies, we need to change our representatives."  Will Rogers

It should be noted that according to the Federal Election Commission that Betsy Markey has accepted $1,000 from American Physical Therapy Association PT-PAC, $1,000 from National Community Pharmacists Association PAC, $1,000 from American Dental PAC, $1,000 from the American Hospital Association PAC, $1,000 from the American Optometric Association PAC, $1,000 from Amgen PAC, $2,000 from National Community Pharmacists Association PAC (earmarked), and $1,000 from National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare. The source of my information may be found here.  Are we the people being fairly represented?

Seniors attending were asked to write their questions down on a card and all were collected by Betsy Markey's staffers. Betsy Markey's staffers then went through the questions to eliminate repeat questions.  My question was never asked to Betsy.  So Betsy Markey or your staffers if you are reading this, I would like my question answered.  Here is my question: By what authority does the Federal Government intervene in health care? In addition to the selective questions Markey's staffers asked from the cards, only 11 people from the audience were allowed to ask questions. See them all pictured in our slide show above.

A man in the audience from Greeley asked if they could take a poll from the audience for three possibilities 1.Who supports H.R 3200?  2. Who wants to do nothing at all and keep what we have now?  3. How many people would like to dump H.R. 3200 and go back to the drawing board?  An overwhelming show of hands and cheers from the audience voted to dump H.R. 3200 and wanted to back to the drawing board.

Betsy Markey then stated: "With that, I hear you loud and clear."  In the end, we will all see how she actually votes!

After the rally, numerous participants went across the street to Representative Betsy Markey's office to deliver the message to her that we don't want Government run health care.  Betsy Markey's office was closed and the door locked. Is she avoiding listening to the people who wanted to be heard loud and clear? Soon the building called the police and told all the protesters that they could not remain in the building in front of her office.  PLEASE CLICK THE IMAGE ABOVE TO SEE A SLIDE SHOW CONTAINING 52 PHOTOS OF THE EVENT.
